Matilda Jane Clothing (MJC) was created in 2005 by Denise DeMarchis with one goal in mind — to bring happiness into the lives of their customers. Most of their product line features clothing, with options that might be considered more “whimsical” and unconventional. It started as a line geared primarily towards young girls, but it now includes a men’s, women’s, accessories, and home collection. The home collection includes items such as blankets, bedding, bath mats, and various dolls.
MJC wants to make it easy for mothers to dress their young girls into clothes without having to pick a fight every single morning. MJC helps young girls figure out their own style that can stick with them as they grow. Its unusual product line makes its brand unique and harder to find similar products in the market.
The company has two catalogs a year: fall and spring, so there will always be something fresh to sell. The pricing of the line is not overly expensive, but not everyone can afford the price line. Some of the leggings start at just $34, while other products like dresses will cost about $50. Many of the clothes are meant for a special occasion, which might make the higher price tag worth it.
Matilda Jane Clothing believes they can change the world … one twirl at a time. DeMarchis vision was to create a company that could positively impact communities of need, whether they be in the backyard or across the world. She created a “Janes Give Back” program that raised more than $180,000 for 849 different organizations. The company also works closely with nonprofits Habitat for Humanity and Changing the Face of Beauty, which is committed to the equal representation of people with disabilities in advertising and media.
Trunk Keeper Compensation
People can join MJC as independent consultants, or “Matilda Jane Trunk Keepers.” They work with hostesses, or “Janes” to hold Trunk Shows that will show off your wares. Starting off, you get a 20% commission, regardless of what your sales level is. Like nearly all MLM companies, you can add more people to your team and earn a commission based on their sales.
Matilda Jane Trunk Keeper Investment Cost
To officially get started with Matilda Jane Clothing, there is a $1500 startup cost which will cover a wooden rack to display your goods, a welcome gift, clothing inventory and accessories, marketing materials, and five bonus booking gifts to give away to your first five “Janes.”
Included in the fees is a personalized website that Trunk Keepers can utilize to sell more product.
Though $1500 is a steep investment for many, Matilda Jane does offer financing and payment plans. And the seasonal inventory is often used by Trunk Keepers for big end-of-the-season sales!
Additional Bonuses
Trunk Keepers are able to recruit team members for additional income. Sales bonuses and incentives are also available throughout the year.
Age / Location Requirements
Trunk Keeps can be located anywhere in the USA but must be at least 18 years or older.
Matilda Jane Clothing’s website is not particularly transparent when it comes to information about compensation, how many people are involved in the organization, if distributors are buying and then reselling products, or whether customers place orders using catalogs. As with any business opportunity, please ask a lot of questions and perform your due diligence prior to enrolling.
